Song for Reggie and Sheila’s memorial

Song for Reggie and Sheila’s memorial – May 29th 2010

Tune: “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof

It was Reggie Uncle’s birthday and just a month after Sheila Chithie’s first death anniversary, so Nita thought it was appropriate to have a memorial for both of them. It was a heartwarming occasion with members of the family including the senior-most, 91-year old Durai Uncle, giving tributes to Sheila Chithie and Reggie Uncle. We sang hymns and Rev. Nirmala Vasanthakumar led us in in prayer. Nita along with Priya and Nisha sang this song I had composed to the tune of “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof and everyone joined in the chorus.

The memorial brought back memories of the countless times we’ve enjoyed the hospitality of their home and their lovely green garden at parties. We remembered the fun we had on their farm, the site for so many family picnics. Now Nita is carrying on the family tradition of hospitality. The evening ended with a delicious dinner and we all reminisced about the good times we shared with Sheila Chithie and Reggie Uncle. We could almost feel their presence with us.

This is the garden green he planted
This is the farm for getaways
This is the kitchen where she baked those
heavenly brownies…

They looked so natural together
Matching steps to the cha-cha-cha
Stayed close through thick and thin for
fif-ty years…

Reggie, Sheila,
Reggie, Sheila

Live on in our hearts
Thank you God for their lives together
For they were blessings to others.

His humour, her infectious laughter
Their love of travel and people
Came together in get-togethers,
trips – and – picnics

With Nita they became a family
Loving and caring and giving
Their thoughtful ways live on in Ni-ta dear…

Reggie, Sheila, Reggie, Sheila
Live on in our hearts

Thank you God for their lives together
For they were blessings to others.

They complemented one another
Engineer an-d lec-tu-rer
Com-mu-ni-cating easily with
young – and – old….

Ready to help in times of need – they were
Kind and affectionate indeed
They drew us with their special
brand – of – charm…

Reggie, Sheila,
Reggie, Sheila
Live on in our hearts
Thank you God for their lives together
For they were blessings to others.
